Memorial Day

As we gather with friends and family this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this solemn occasion. Memorial Day is not just a long weekend or a time for barbecues and parades; it is a day of remembrance and gratitude for the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We honor their courage, their dedication, and their selflessness. Their legacies live on in the freedoms we enjoy every day.

For many families, Memorial Day is also a time of personal reflection. It is a day when memories of loved ones lost in service come to the forefront. Their sacrifices are a poignant reminder of the cost of our freedom. We owe them a debt that can never be repaid, but we honor their memory by living with gratitude and striving to uphold the values they fought to protect.

This day also gives us the opportunity to support our veterans and active-duty service members. They continue to bear the weight of our national security, often at great personal cost. Our expressions of thanks, our acts of kindness, and our support for veterans’ organizations are small ways in which we can show our appreciation.

This Memorial Day, I would like to extend a special thanks to my brave sister, Danielle Wiley, who embodies the spirit of service and sacrifice that we commemorate. Danielle is soon to retire from the United States Navy after 28 years of continuous service, a milestone that is both awe-inspiring and deeply humbling. Currently holding the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, she has dedicated nearly three decades of her life to protecting and serving our country.

Danielle’s journey in the Navy is a testament to her resilience and commitment. Over the years, she has faced challenges that most of us can only imagine, demonstrating exceptional leadership and unwavering resolve. Her contributions have not only furthered the mission of the Navy but also inspired those around her. As she prepares to transition into a new chapter of her life, it is fitting to acknowledge the profound impact of her service.

To Danielle, and to all those who serve or have served, thank you. Your courage and dedication ensure that the legacy of those we honor today will never be forgotten. As you embark on your well-deserved retirement, know that your service has made a difference and that you have the heartfelt gratitude of a grateful nation.

Let us all take a moment this Memorial Day to honor the fallen, celebrate the brave, and renew our commitment to the values they fought to protect. May we never forget the sacrifices made for our freedom, and may we strive to live in a way that honors their legacy.

Thank you, Danielle, and thank you to all who serve. Happy Memorial Day.

All the best,

Nathan Derry
