December 4th is a day worth celebrating—National Cookie Day! Who doesn’t love a warm, delicious cookie fresh from the oven? And if you’re like me, nothing beats a decadent, chocolaty, nutty cookie with a crunchy exterior and a gooey, melt-in-your-mouth center.

When it comes to cookies that deliver that perfect balance of flavors and textures, the DoubleTree Hotel’s famous chocolate chip cookie takes the crown. Lucky for us, the recipe has been revealed, and I’m sharing it here so you can bake these iconic cookies at home.

Why Celebrate National Cookie Day?

Cookies are a universal symbol of comfort, joy, and love. They remind us of home, childhood, and special moments shared with family and friends. Whether you love baking them or simply eating them (no judgment!), cookies bring people together.

The DoubleTree Hotel Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

If you’ve ever stayed at a DoubleTree Hotel, you know the joy of being greeted with a warm chocolate chip cookie. Here’s how you can recreate that magic in your kitchen:

Ingredients

  • ½ pound (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 2 2/3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ¾ cups chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  2. Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a stand mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Add eggs, vanilla, and lemon juice, blending for 30 seconds. Increase speed to medium-high and continue mixing for 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until combined.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts by hand.
  6. Portion the dough using a cookie scoop (about 3 tablespoons) and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing cookies 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 20–23 minutes, or until edges are golden brown but centers remain soft. Cool on a wire rack.

Why These Cookies Are Special

The combination of chocolate chips and walnuts, with a hint of oats and cinnamon, creates a cookie that’s rich, flavorful, and texturally perfect. Plus, the touch of lemon juice adds an unexpected brightness that enhances the overall taste.

Cookie Day Fun Facts

  • The first cookies were likely test cakes made by bakers to check oven temperatures.
  • Chocolate chip cookies were invented in the 1930s by Ruth Wakefield at the Toll House Inn.
  • Americans eat more cookies per capita than anyone else in the world.

Whether you bake a batch of these DoubleTree cookies or indulge in your personal favorite, National Cookie Day is the perfect excuse to treat yourself. As someone who loves a good cookie almost as much as helping clients find their dream home, I encourage you to savor the little moments—like the simple joy of a freshly baked cookie.

Happy National Cookie Day!
