What Does This Mean for Buyers and Sellers?

A Delicious Recipe for Buttery, Flavorful Brined Turkey

The holidays are just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with a perfectly brined turkey? This recipe guarantees a moist, tender, and flavorful bird that will impress your family and friends.

Ingredients for the Brine:

  • 2 gallons of water
  • 1 cup kosher salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 4 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • 4 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
  • 6 cloves of garlic, smashed

Ingredients for Roasting:

  • 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped

Directions:

  1. Brining the Turkey:

    • In a large stockpot, combine water, salt, sugar, orange, lemon, herbs, peppercorns, and garlic. Heat until the salt and sugar dissolve. Cool completely.
    • Submerge the turkey in the brine and refrigerate for 12–24 hours.
  2. Preparing for Roasting:

    • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Remove the turkey from the brine and rinse thoroughly. Pat dry with paper towels.
    • Rub the turkey with softened butter and olive oil, ensuring even coverage under the skin. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Roasting:

    • Place onion, carrots, and celery in the roasting pan. Set the turkey on top of the vegetables.
    • Roast the turkey, basting occasionally, until a meat thermometer reads 165°F in the thickest part of the breast (about 15 minutes per pound).
    • Let the turkey rest for 20–30 minutes before carving.

Enjoy this show-stopping centerpiece with your favorite sides!

Preparing Your Home for Travel

The holidays often mean travel, and leaving your home unattended requires some preparation to ensure it stays secure and well-maintained. Here are some tips to safeguard your property while you’re away:

  1. Hold Mail and Packages:

    • Prevent overflowing mailboxes by placing a hold on your mail or asking a trusted neighbor to collect it.
  2. Install Smart Home Technology:

    • Use smart plugs and lights to simulate activity in the home, deterring potential intruders.
  3. Check Security Systems:

    • Ensure your alarm system and cameras are working properly. Test them before leaving.
  4. Unplug Non-Essential Electronics:

    • Reduce fire risks and save on energy bills by unplugging appliances and electronics.
  5. Adjust Your Thermostat:

    • Set your thermostat to a temperature that protects your pipes without wasting energy.
  6. Notify a Neighbor or Friend:

    • Share your travel plans with someone you trust, and ask them to keep an eye on your home.
  7. Secure Outdoor Items:

    • Bring in patio furniture, bicycles, and other outdoor items to prevent theft or weather damage.
  8. Check for Leaks:

    • Inspect plumbing for leaks and shut off water to non-essential areas to avoid flooding.
