As a Realtor, my daily interactions often revolve around the pursuit of finding individuals their ideal homes, guiding them through the intricacies of the Real Estate process, and ultimately facilitating the realization of their dreams. However, there are moments when the lens widens, and we're compelled to confront the darker chapters of human history, such as the Armenian Genocide.

The Armenian Genocide, a harrowing chapter in the annals of history, unfolded between 1915 and 1923 under the Ottoman Empire's rule. During this period, an estimated 1.5 million Armenians perished in a meticulously orchestrated campaign of violence, displacement, and deprivation. Entire communities were uprooted from their ancestral lands, subjected to forced marches, starvation, and brutal massacres. The consequences of this genocide continue to reverberate through generations, leaving an indelible mark on the Armenian people and the global community at large.

As we confront the enormity of the Armenian Genocide, it's crucial to acknowledge that perspectives on historical events may vary. Some may attempt to downplay or deny the extent of the atrocities perpetrated against the Armenian population, while others may seek to contextualize or justify the actions of the perpetrators. However, amidst these divergent viewpoints, there's a fundamental truth that transcends debate: the inherent sanctity of human life.

From the perspective of a Realtor, the concept of home holds profound significance. A home is not merely a physical structure; it's a sanctuary where individuals find solace, security, and a sense of belonging. Yet, for the victims of the Armenian Genocide, the very notion of home was violently shattered. Families were torn apart, communities were decimated, and the bonds that tethered individuals to their land and heritage were cruelly severed.

In the context of Real Estate, we understand the importance of preserving the sanctity of home and ensuring that every individual has a place to call their own. The thought of entire generations being forcibly displaced, deprived of their homes, and subjected to unspeakable suffering is not only morally abhorrent but antithetical to the values of compassion, empathy, and respect for human dignity.

As Realtors, we have a responsibility not only to facilitate transactions but also to uphold the principles of justice, equity, and human rights within our communities. By acknowledging the horrors of the Armenian Genocide and reaffirming our commitment to honoring the lives lost, we stand in solidarity with the Armenian community and all those who have been affected by historical injustices.

It's essential to recognize that disagreement over historical interpretations does not absolve us of the obligation to confront and condemn acts of genocide and mass atrocities. Killing and un-homing entire generations, whether through violence, starvation, or displacement, is not only immoral but represents a grave betrayal of our shared humanity.

As Realtors, we must strive to be agents of compassion, empathy, and reconciliation. By acknowledging the atrocities of the past and affirming our commitment to honoring life, we can contribute to a more just and compassionate society—one where the lessons of history are not forgotten, and where the sanctity of every human life is revered and protected.
